head injury recovery, challenges and gifts of 2020, solstice and cherries

I'm almost lost for words this month.

My husband had a head injury a few weeks ago and we are living at the pace of healing. Slow, steady, careful, intentional. He is expected to make a full recovery, and also it is frustrating and sad and a steep learning curve.

I have been reflecting on 2020 and what my challenges and gifts have been this year (they are often related):

  • living with constant change and the pressure of unknowns. Learning to be graceful, adaptable, responsive.
  • feeling stuck at home, isolated and limited.  Finding harmony at home and bringing my work and home life into alignment.
  • feeling silenced and punished by mandatory mask wearing. Discovering a new appreciation for community care and protection beyond the individual.
  • heightened sensitivity and hypervigilance to the world around me. This sometimes floods me with anxiety and makes it difficult to rest and feel safe. It also creates a deeper connection to the natural world than I have ever felt before.
  • feeling like my only role in life is being a mother. Discovering my mothering is a strength in all aspects of my life and that I can guide others in this way.
  • huge waves of grief. Learning to feel and not fix. And to use my gentleness and compassion as a skill I can share.

I am certainly not moving into 2021 light hearted and unburdened, but I am stronger, more supported and skilled at navigating and shaping change.

However you are feeling as the year ends, I hope you are able to pause and reflect. What challenged you the most in 2020? What have you learned or how have you grown? What will you be carrying with you into the new year?

I look forward to supporting you again next year and sharing my resources and inspiration. I’m planning e-books for birth and postpartum preparation, infographics for tending your body and nervous system at home, and mini lessons on dynamic anatomy... is there anything else you are particularly interested in?

I will be resting, soaking in the morning and evening sunshine, eating my favourite fruit and celebrating the solstice and Christmas with my family from 19 Dec - 3 Jan. Wishing you ease and joy as we shift into a new year!

Much love,

Emily
