How are you feeling in this month we usually associate with fresh starts and resolutions? I almost never feel like the last year is complete or the new one really begun in these early weeks of January. It's all a bit chaotic and vague. A work in progress.

I read the phrase *embracing evolutionary discomfort* in a recent email from [Lindsay Mack](https://lindsaymack.com/?ref=emilymorter.com) and I've been thinking about it a lot since. Change and growth is rarely neat, easy or comfortable. But as I teach my pregnant clients - working with the discomfort or pain, knowing and trusting that it is moving you somewhere, that it has a purpose, makes all the difference. It can turn pain into intensity rather than suffering.

The other thought that has been rattling around in my head is one of the principles of osteopathy - that our work is to find the **health** and balance the body to that, rather than seeking to name what is wrong. To find **ease** rather than disease.

Sometimes this is a real mental stretch. It is so easy to notice what is wrong, broken, dysfunctional. In a body or in life. To tense up and cling onto our problems and old beliefs rather than loosening our grasp and being open to new ideas. Responsive. Adaptable.

So rather than new year's resolutions this January, I am taking daily steps towards focusing my attention, time and energy on **what is going right.** Noticing in small moments where the health and ease is in my life. And finding ways to sustain this.

*I wonder what is going right for you? Where do you notice ease in your life?*

Thanks for being here. I love sending these words out to you,

Emily xx
