It’s winter solstice this Sunday; when the sun reaches its lowest point and appears to stand still in the sky. It will change direction after this and rise higher again each day.

I’ve heard from a lot of people that they are feeling low lately - carrying sorrow, struggling with physical illness, untangling emotional patterns or complicated relationships.

Let’s take a moment this week to pause. Let go of what we can, and look forward to something hopeful in the future. It doesn’t need to be a big change, just shifting our focus to positive action rather than reactivity.

Here are some photos of positive actions I’ve made this month, with quotes from other people... to uplift their voices, and also to rest mine.

> *Walk For Truth is a collective journey that says, with our feet and our voices, that our country needs healing. We walk for those who did not live long enough to see their truths believed, for children who deserve to grow up in a nation that does not lie to them about how it came to be and for Elders who have carried the weight of other people’s denial for too long. We are walking because love of country means loving it enough to change it.*

> *Mothering is a verb available to everyone. It does not require a partner or a functioning uterus. It is a way of turning towards the world with care and “washing my hands of looking out just for me”. How can I make myself a wide and generous lap where other beings – babies, friends, animals, family – can feel safe? How can I make stories that feed more than just me? That imagine futures where we all survive?*

> *I cut off my hair. It was an act of liberation – a reminder that I am under no obligation to be the person I once was.*
>
> *I like the freedom of short hair both in time and expectation. I like that I gave myself the opportunity to experiment because it forces me to take things less seriously.*
>
> *I don’t know if this will be just a season of short hair or a lifetime, but I am having fun with it for now. After all, it grows back.*
